~ Call to Order ~

Club President Becky Ankeny welcomed Rotarians and Friends of Rotary to the Hybrid Live/Zoom meeting at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at the Chehalem Cultural Center.

 

~ Flag Salute ~

~ 4 Way Test ~

~ Announcements ~

Auction Committee – We are now nearly 2 months away and A LOT of planning goes into this project.  So please consider joining the committee and helping the team build an amazing Auction.  The Committee plans to be available meet after the club meetings to discuss progress.  Please see Michelle and sign up to help out in some way.  Also now is a good time to begin finding procurements (let Dan K know if you have any relevant connections you plan to reach out to).  Every meeting will include opportunities to check in about the auction, sign up for a role, and hear updates from the Co-Chairs.  Please go out and find auction items!  IF you will be contributing something yourself, please connect with Dan and let him know ([email protected]).

  • The Event:  The auction will be October 28, 2022 (SAVE THE DATE) at the Chehalem Cultural Center.
  • The Theme: This is our 50th Annual Auction, so the Committee has chosen the 1950’s for the theme.
  • Dan K’s GOLDEN TICKET CHALLENGE:  Dan K Will be buying the very first of 100 Golden Tickets for Sale for $100.  Any Rotarian who either contributes an auction item themselves or procures an item from a friend, family, or business will need to let Dan K know and their name will be entered into a drawing to WIN THAT GOLDEN TICKET!  Remember, up to 100 Golden Tickets will be sold, and at the Auction, one ticket will be drawn and the owner of that ticket gets to select ANY of our amazing and quite valuable Live Auction items.  The sale of these tickets are the portion of the Auction that supports Club Activity.  You do not need to be at the event to win.

DAN K PROCUREMENT UPDATE!!!:  Big Thank You to the following who have donated an item/package to the auction

  • Luckee Dutch Bakery will be donating a beautiful Halloween Cake
  • Grant Gerke will be donating another Amazing Dinner Package
  • Jungle Media will be donating a media-marking drone flight
  • Stephanie Sherman with Sherman Candles will be donating a Custom made candle basket
  • Tualatin Island Greens will be donating 4 drinks and 4 buckets of balls to their driving range
  • The Hillsboro Hops are donating 4 Field Box Tickets

Early Birds Announcement – The Early Birds Club and invited us all to join them for SummerFest (formerly OctoberFest).  There will be Beer, Cider, Wine, Food, Dancing, dog shows, Etc.  There will be Entertainers with Jugglers, Fire Hoopers, etc. and will be great for Families.  Please come and tell your friends about it.

~ The Rotary Duck ~

Karen: Shared that her and Daniel had experienced the power of prayer and good thoughts.  She reminded us to think positive things and send out positivity in the world as it may help people.

Kathie: Shared that her daughter, who had a mysterious and critical illness is now on the mend.  Thanks for the prayers.  She gave kudos to prayer and the medical science that helped her daughter.  She also shared that Shred Day is Saturday for First Federal.  People can bring documents needing shredded.

Paul: Shared that he will be donating 4 quarts of his honey into the auction.

~ Today’s Program: Helping Hands Reentry Outreach Center with Michael Pollock ~

Michael Pollock is a Case Manager for the Helping Hands Reentry Outreach Center in Newberg.  Helping Hands assists people who have problems with homelessness, whether they are working through drugs or alcohol additions, coming from the prison system or many other situations.  Michael was born in Long Island, New York, born at 10 and a half pounds.  He lived in 13 different homes all over the Country growing up.  He had a lot of issues in school and was really shy.  He suffered from Alcohol and drug issues from the age of 13 to 48.  He shared about those struggles, which ultimately led him to participate in a program called “Thugs off Drugs” (now helping Hands) after suffering several heart attacks in 2010.  He has been clean, sober, and doing amazing since, even working past a the deaths of his brother and his mother in that time.  He even was given a job opportunity to work for the organization, allowing him to share his story with others suffering from a similar struggle.  He also shared about how nervous he was to join our Rotary Club as he was worried of being judged, only to find out how welcoming and accepting the Rotary Club is and how much of a sense of togetherness and community our Club brings.  In his years working with Helping Hands he has helped so many people turn their lives around and improve their lives and ability to contribute in so many positive ways to their communities.  He shared many amazing stories and if you are interested in helping or even just hearing more about some of these amazing stories, ask Michael.  Michael also shared that he is looking to take on a huge new expansion project outside of Yamhill County and this will be an amazing opportunity for him.
