Visitors/Guests:
Joan Shulz was Deborah Cathers-Seymour’s guest today. We sincerely hope she enjoyed today’s program and will come back again soon!
Club Budget Summary:
Leah Griffith gave us a quick-but-solid overview of our budget…and how fiscally conscientious we are! Copies of pertinent budget data were provided at each table. For budget details as well as Board Briefs from the June Board meeting, check the club’s website.
Pancake Breakfast Reminder:
Pancake Breakfast reminder: This is one of our primary fundraisers! For over 30 years both Newberg Rotary clubs have sponsored the Newberg Rotary Pancake Breakfast at Memorial Park. This year our terrific family event is being held Saturday & Sunday, July 27-28, as part of the community’s Old Fashioned Festival. Volunteers are needed for Set-Up as well as helping make all aspects of the breakfast “production” run smoothly. ALL proceeds from Noon Rotary tickets sold PRIOR to the event go to OUR club….those sold at/during the event are split between the two clubs after paying costs of food & supplies. THEREFORE…it is definitely to our club’s benefit to SELL…SELL…SELL tickets BEFORE the breakfast! ALSO…..as a change of policy from the past….you pay the club for only those tickets [$7 each for adults] you sell…. SO…sell them ALL! Questions? Contact Curt Walker.
Today’s Program:
Today we were treated, enthralled, educated, and entertained by professional dance instructors Kacey Bickering and Emily Henderson of the Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Lake Oswego, with their presence arranged by Dale Welcome. Starting with some interesting history regarding the renown professional dancer Fred Astaire himself…and the subsequent franchising of his dance studios… Kacey told us about the various dance classes available…then he and dance partner Emily demonstrated with the basic moves/steps of the “rumba”. Then he called upon volunteers from the audience….managing to convince 12 Rotarians to step forward…sideways…backwards….several times….more or less in ”lock step” for a group lesson. Kacey & Emily provided us with printed material including Gift Cards to Introductory Dance Packages and “personal invitations” to the Last Friday Open House each month from 8 – 8:15. Registrations can be made on-line at portland@fredastaire.com Auggie did his usual great job of coming up with photos of the scene.
And a good time was had by ALL!
Other Rotary Events:
A personal plug…but still for Rotary…for those with any interest at all in “collector cars”…the two Forest Grove Rotary clubs are sponsoring the 46th [!] Annual Forest Grove Concours d’Elegance on the beautifully-manicured campus of historic Pacific University, Sunday, July 15…gates open at 8:30 AM…With over 300 beautifully presented automobiles on display in a delightful, tree-shaded setting. This year Packards and Chevrolet trucks are featured, although the entire history of the automobile will be represented by cars on display. Class winners’ trophies are presented on stage for over 50 judged classes as well as several Special Awards, beginning about 2 PM…and the show ends at ~4:30 with the selection of the Best-in-Show. This Rotary-sponsored show has long-since earned the respect of the international collector car crowd…and is truly considered one of the TOP 20 “concours” globally. Fantastic venue, good food, beverages, stage show…and another terrific Rotary-sponsored FAMILY event! Adult tickets at the gate are $20 each…a true bargain in today’s entertainment world!
