~ Auction Announcements ~

Shannon and the club gave big thanks and kind words to the incredible team that put on the 48th annual Newberg Rotary Auction, led by Shannon Knight, Michelle Colvin, Lisa Salmons, and Kathie Byers.  The official debrief will happen at the upcoming board meeting and the club debriefing will happen at the November 11 meeting.  The event, as many of you know since you were there, went very well!  It was a lot of fun and a lot of funds were raised.

Spike thanked the team and all of the donors on behalf of the Club Foundation.  They will use the money to support local youth programs.

Shannon Knight thanked all of the donors, helpers, supporters, etc for helping make it a success.  Kathie came in at the end to help finish the effort.  Plenty of people reached out to see how they could help and offered words of support.

~ Guests ~

Alex Sheppard, Rotary Club of Kruze Way

Alex Sheppard is a visiting Rotarian from Kruse Way in Lake Oswego.  He came to our zoom meeting to invite us all to their exciting virtual concert they are putting on featuring their favorite performers:  Patrick Lamb, Turnstyles (The Ultimate Billy Joel Tribute Band), and the Wannabeattles. They will go live from November 11 to December 2.  If you would like to attend or hear more, email at [email protected].

~ The Rotary Duck ~

Shannon B:  We have officially, in just our first quarter, met our Annual Goal for Polio Plus days!  Special thanks goes to Geoff for last months matching pledge!

Kathie:  Concluded the diaper drive for A Family Place a few weeks ago and they collected nearly 5,000 diapers and over 7,000 wipes.  She also gave a shout out to First Federal for donating huge in the diaper drive as well as First Federal’s overall annual contribution tally of $42,000 this year to the Newberg Community!

Joe:  We passed our school bond last night with a higher approval than expected.  He gave thanks to the community for voting this.  He also thanked Walter for being a good sport regarding his joke about Walter learning the mute button during the Auction.

Geoff:  Wanted to challenge Joe to show us his awesome socks!  We then spent a few more minutes talking about socks.

Brandy:  She agreed with the excitement of the passing of the bond.  She also wanted to shout out to Mike and Dr. Amy Caruso, who outbid her on all sorts of items.  Great minds think alike!

Jim:  Reminder that Veteran’s Day is coming up, and to remind people to remember and give thanks to our Club members who have served.  He also read an amazing article about Walter and to thank him for his service.  This article was featured on the front page of this week’s Newberg Graphic.  Online Subscribers click here.

Tony:  The start of the 18th annual Turkey donation effort has begun.  Come drop a turkey off with Tony at Excel Fitness or $20!  They donate these Turkeys to the local Food Bank.  Over the last few years, between Newberg and Mcminnville Club, they have donated between 2,500 to 2,800 Lbs of Turkey.

Shannon B:  Congratulations to Denise Bacon for winning her reelection to Newberg City Council last night.

Denise:  Is humbled and grateful, and has now served for 12 years and now will have another 4 more to go.

Total:  $146 donated to the Duck!  Thanks Donors!

~ Today’s Program: Induction of New Members!~

Today, our Rotary Club is proud to officially induct 5 Amazing new members, each bringing their own personality, passions, and skills to the club.  Christina Cowgill, Amber Hansen-Moore, Larry Strober, Debbey Thomas, and Doug Utberg.  These are likely names you recognize from recent online meetings, from seeing their names in the auction, or from their participation in the community, as they have extensive collective philanthropic resumes, locally and internationally.  They were all officially sworn in and recited the new member oath.  See a top level highlight below of these new members and take note of their scheduled Classification Talks over the next few months.  Remember, the Classification Talk is the opportunity to get a crash course in each member.  Make sure you show up and help learn about why we are so lucky to have them while they tell us about their lives and their passions.

~ Next Week’s Program: Recap of the Auction ~

While it’s still fresh in our minds, we will evaluate what we loved about our 48th Annual Auction and what we’d change for next year. Please bring your opinions and experiences to our Auction Committee!

Check your e-mails for Mike Caruso’s Zoom meeting access information.

~ Joke of the Day ~

Today I burned 2,000 calories. That’s the last time I leave brownies in the oven while I nap.
