Board of Directors

Welcome from Club President, Becky Ankeny

Message from the 2022-23 President:

“Imagine a world that deserves our best,” Jennifer Jones, Rotary International President told incoming district governors on 20 January 2022, “where we get up each day knowing that we can make a difference.” She introduced the 2022-23 theme for Rotary International, “Imagine Rotary.” She urged people to dream big and harness their connections and the power of Rotary to turn those dreams into reality.

Engaging members is crucial to retaining members, she said, adding that we need to ask members what they want to get from Rotary and give them meaningful responsibilities.

“It is our offer of hands-on service, personal growth, leadership development, and lifelong friendships that creates purpose and passion,” Jones said. “Let’s make sure we engage our members so they love their clubs and their Rotary experience,” she added.

“Imagine Rotary”

The changes our club has gone through in the past two years have left us with the challenge of re-engaging in the mission and activities that make Rotary meaningful to us. We also have the possibility of imagining new activities that will help us accomplish the mission of Rotary in this coming year.

The mission of Rotary International is this:

We provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through our fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders.

Here in Newberg, we can look for local ways to serve our community, we can speak up for and embody integrity, and we can make it our pattern for to advance understanding within our community, to build goodwill in our community, and to help our community embody peace. Essentially, we can do this by remembering the 4-Way Test when we find ourselves in the presence of divisive and hostile conversations. This takes courage and care for those around us, even the most divisive and hostile.

Additionally, my hope is that we can be bringers of joy and kindness into our circles of influence, so that we can actually experience fellowship and community.
