When you’re 80 years old, you have stories and experiences to share. That’s true for our club, too.  And now our club’s colorful history has been documented by summer intern and George Fox University history major, Britta Stewart (who, by the way, was also seen giving walking tours at the Hoover Minthorn House museum last weekend).

Britta Stewart presents her work on our club’s history

Britta presented the results of her good work at our meeting last week. All this summer, she researched, she interviewed, she organized, she documented, she wrote, she designed, she posted ….a wonderful product now on our website.  You’re going to want to take a look. It’s not completely done yet (still time for additions, if you have any), but it’s already easy to get sucked in and suddenly it’s a half hour later. Go to https://www.newbergrotary.org and click on “About Our Club.” Then scroll down and click on “Club History.”

Just some of the categories available: a listing of all presidents, an overview, oral history videos (be sure to watch Grant Gerke’s), service project info like Guatemala, a photos page and a timeline.  Britta even found out that this is the 50th anniversary year of our pancake breakfast.  I love that she also learned that we used to sell fruitcake as a fundraiser :(

Special thanks to Britta, and to Geoff Gilmore for supervising this project.

And speaking of the pancake breakfast, many thanks to all who participated this year.

OLD FASHIONED FESTIVAL PRINCESSES VISIT

Old Fashion Festival Court 072716[2]

Princess Mariah, left, Princess Felicia and Princess Emily

Three young ladies serving as Old Fashioned Festival princesses–Emily Sandberg, Mariah Lemen and Felicia Rogers–joined us for lunch. They were accompanied by two chaperones–Krista Gardner and Missy Love (must have been worried about Walter). Emily and Felicia just graduated from Newberg High School and Mariah will be a senior this Fall. They each made a short presentation, and then we were asked to help vote for Queen.

FOLLOW-UP NOTE: To quote the Newberg Graphic, “It isn’t a festival until there’s a queen.”  Emily was named Queen Thursday night.

Welcome, Judy! We’ll look forward to your classification talk soon to learn even more about you.
