Beth Pent led us in the pledge today. Thanks, Beth!

~ Rotary Moment ~

Our Rotary Moment today was from Jeff Lane….thanking everyone who volunteered to help put on yet another successful Pancake Breakfast in the park! He gave some stats…we had a little less attendance than last year, but still good given the hot weather. Jeff, we couldn’t have done it so well without your able leadership!

~ Party time! ~

Corey Z. teased us with the announcement of a party/social on the 15th! Details:

Rotary Social on August 15, in lieu of our usual noon meeting site:
Time: 12-2 pm
Location: Butteville General Store
Address: 10767 Butte St NE, Aurora, OR 97002

[Ed. Note: The reasons given for the contributions were QUITE varied and coming too fast for me to take specific notes!]
THANKS EVERYONE!

Jim McMaster

~ Today’s PROGRAM ~

Jim McMaster, retiring Facilities Manager of the Chehalem Park & Recreation District [CPRD], took the floor and touched on his retirement plans. There’s been a lot of change with Jim’s upcoming retirement after 38 years with CPRD and Mark Martin after 35+ years.  Fittingly, Mark Martin was Grand Marshal of this year’s Festival Parade! Jim spoke proudly of the 1000+ acres of parkland in the District and briefly discussed the next phase for the Aquatic Center site ….then introduced a couple of “rising stars” within CPRD:

Julie Petersen

*Julie Petersen is the new Supervisor overseeing Sports, Recreation and Aquatics. She is replacing Mark Martin,  long time supervisor with the park district who has recently retired. She oversees year round youth and adult sports, the recreation division and the aquatics division which includes hundreds of district youth and adults. Julie was pleased to remind us that the new Aquatic Center has Jim’s name fittingly emblazoned on the competitive pool! She also expressed a strong interest in joining our Rotary Club!

Matt Compton

*Matt Compton is the new Coordinator who oversees the Sr. Center, after-school programs, pre-school, facility rentals, recreation classes and activities. For the past 8 years Matt had been responsible for the operation of just the Sr. Center, but was promoted to oversee the programs mentioned.

Jim’s replacement was unable to join us today….but I’m sure we’ll get a full report in the near future! Thanks to Jim for another interesting program!
Our highly energetic president, Om, closed our meeting again with the reminder to ….
